The Bayelsa State Gubernatorial Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has nullified the election of Governor Douye Diri.
The Bayelsa State Gubernatorial Petition Tribunal passed the judgment on Monday.
In a majority judgment delivered by Justice Yunusa Musa in the petition, the tribunal held that the Independent National Electoral Commission unlawfully excluded Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party (ANDP) and its candidate, King George from the November 16, 2019 governorship election in the state
Diri, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was sworn in as governor after the Supreme Court sacked David Lyon as governor-elect 24 hours before his inauguration
The tribunal however ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a bye election within 90 days.
