Two vigilante operatives aka Bakassi Boys have been lynched by irate residents of Aba, the commercial city of Abia State.
The incident occurred at Railway by Ogbonnaya Road.
It was learnt that the Bakassi Boys attacked one Chisom, which resulted in his death.
The late Chisom was said to have died as a result of a gunshot injury he sustained in a private hospital where he was rushed for treatment.
The deceased was said to have named the vigilante operatives as the people who shot him and collected his phone. He said he resisted the vigilante operatives from taking his phone from him.
The late Chisom was said to have come out of a bar when the vigilante operatives, who many accused of being notorious in the area, accosted him. The death of Chisom angered some youths and other residents who stormed the apartments of the two vigilante operatives.
It was gathered that the mob on recovering the deceased’s phone from the vigilante operatives beat them to a pulp.
The two operatives were later set ablaze by the mob.
There are fears that the pump action guns recovered from the vigilante operatives by the mob may have gotten into the wrong hands, The Nations reports.
