Two Mass Communication Students abducted; 1 Killed, other escaped

The first was a Mass Communication female student of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), who was found dead days after she was abducted.

Happiness Odeh was abducted along Iperu road while on her way to a movie set location at Ipara, Ode-remo with the consent of her parents.

According to sources, the victim had gone missing since then and was discovered dead a few days later.

The incident was confirmed by the leadership of the Students Union of MAPOLY in a statement issued by the Students Union President, Sodiq Ajani and the Public Relations Officer, Joy Okolie.

“Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Students Union (MAPSU) announces the untimely death of Miss Happiness Odeh, a Mass Communication student of MAPOLY.

“According to reports, she was abducted along Iperu road to her destination. The deceased left Abeokuta three days ago to visit a movie location at Ipara, Ode-Remo, with the consent of her parents.

The student union government also said contrary to the speculations, her death is not related to her status as the new Miss MAPOLY.

The student body said she won the award on the 3rd of August, and the movie location she attended has nothing to do with the beauty pageantry on campus.

“Contrary to the rumours flying around, her death is not related to her status as the new Miss MAPOLY. She won the award on the 3rd of August and the movie location she attended has nothing to do with the beauty pageantry on campus.

“We commiserate with her family, friends and colleagues. May Almighty God grant us all the fortitude to bear this painful loss. Continue to rest in the bosom of the Lord,” the statement read.

The remains of the deceased was deposited at the morgue of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.

Few days later, one Ireoluwa Akinlaja of the Redeemers University, Osun State, was also kidnapped in Ogun State.

The 17-year-old student was reportedly on his way to the Redemption camp to join his parents when he was snatched by the kidnappers.

Reports claim Akinlaja was kidnapped around Sagamu Interchange, Ogun state.

He had alighted from a vehicle but while waiting for his parents to pick him up, he was captured, it was learnt.

It was gathered that the Akinlaja immediately sent a message to his mother, announcing that he had been kidnapped. Lucky for him, policemen immediately swung into action in an effort to hunt down the hoodlums. The 100-Level Mass Communication Student escaped from his abductors before security agents got to Ikorodu, where he was driven to.

Governor of the state, Dapo Abiodun, while reacting to the incidents, vowed that there would be no hiding place for criminals in the state.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, on Monday, Abiodun revealed that “the victim, who was kidnapped while on his way to the Redemption Camp on Lagos-Ibadan expressway, escaped from his abductors as security operatives swooped on their den, in Ikorodu, Lagos.”

He confirmed that “The victim, Akinlaja Ireoluwa Oluwatomiwa is a student of the Redeemers University in Osun State. He was on his way to join his parents when he was kidnapped.

“Our security men had trailed the kidnappers to Ikorodu, where the victim was being held hostage. Their arrival on the scene had given an opportunity for the victim to escape from captivity.

“We are happy that the victim escaped unhurt. He has since been reunited with his parents.”

The governor maintained that security operatives are still on the trail of the kidnappers, adding that no effort would be spared to rid the State of undesirable elements.
