Two relatives kidnapped their Nephew; demand N10M ransom

Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers, Abdullahi Mukhtar and Ashiru Yakubu and rescued the victim, a three and half year old boy.

 

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, September 18, said one of the suspects, Mukhtar, 20, confessed that the victim is his relative.

 

Kiyawa said police team while working on a tip-off, raided an uncompleted building located at Ja’in Quarters, Kano where the victim was held hostage.

 

“On the 24/08/2021 at about 1600hrs, a complaint was lodged by a resident of Ja’in Quarters, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State, that his son, Mohammed Aminu, ‘m’, 3½ years old was kidnapped and a ransom of Ten Million Naira (N10,000,000.00) was demanded,” he stated. ”



“Upon receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, fsi raised and instructed a team of detectives led by SP Shehu Dahiru, to rescue the victim and arrest the culprits.

“The team swiftly swung into action, and following credible intelligence, raided an uncompleted building located at Ja’in Quarters Kano where the victim was held hostage and arrested one Abdullahi Mukhtar, ‘m’, 20 years old and Ashiru Yakubu, ‘m’, 22 years old, all of Shago Tara Street, Ja’in Quarters, Kano.

 

The victim was rescued unhurt and rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano, where he was treated and discharged.

 

“On preliminary investigation, one of the suspects; Abdullahi Mukhtar confessed that the victim is his relative and he conspired with his friend Ashiru Yakubu, kidnapped the victim, held him hostage and demanded for Ten Million Naira (N10,000,000.00), but later settled at Six Hundred Thousand Naira (N600,000.00). The two suspects confessed to the crime and have been charged to court for prosecution.”



The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, thanked the good people of Kano State for their continuous support and cooperation.

 

He urged residents to continue to pray for the State, the Nation and to report incidences to the nearest Police Station and not to take laws into their hands.
