UCL: Chelsea may end up regretting Timo Werner’s miss – Merson

Arsenal hero, Paul Merson fears Chelsea may end up regretting Timo Werner’s shocking miss when they host Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, UCL, semi-final second-leg tie next Wednesday.

Merson believes Chelsea deserved to take the win back to Stamford Bridge, but they only managed a 1-1 draw against Real Madrid in the first-leg in Spain last week.

UCL: Chelsea may end up regretting Timo Werner’s miss – Merson

Christian Pulisic scored for Thomas Tuchel’s side, with Karim Benzema equalising for the Los Blancos, but Merson is obstinate Werner should also have been on the scoresheet for the Blues.

Werner missed a glorious chance to score against the LaLiga champions when he fired a point-blank effort straight at Thibaut Courtois and Merson is concerned that moment may come back to haunt Chelsea in the second leg.

“Chelsea were just head and shoulders above Real and could have finished it then and there,” Merson wrote in his column for Daily Star.

“You just hope they don’t end up regretting Timo Werner’s miss, because it was a shocking miss, not a great save by the keeper.

“Sergio Ramos will probably be back for the second leg, and he makes a big difference, so can’t count Madrid out. But I hope Chelsea make it.”
