While another user was skeptical of the onions being odorless after trying a similar hack herself. Actress and author Juju Castaneda replied, “I have to try boiling the onions .. I was juicing them and left it too long .. & for an entire year, anytime my hair was blowed out or straightened it smelled like Sofrito 🥴🤦🏾‍♀️”

Adding onion to a haircare routine may be beneficial due to “the anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties” of the vegetable which can “help you grow your hair or enhance its healthy appearance,” according to Healthline.

Cardi’s preferred method isn’t new — and many dermatologists say it can support hair regrowth. The sulfur found in onion juice is thought to support collagen production.

“Onion juice has the potential to help stimulate hair follicles and thereby encourage hair growth,” Tiffany Young, a certified trichologist and the CEO of ThinHairThick, told Martha Stewart in March. “It is also a natural antiseptic. Hair loss that is caused from inflammatory disease, poor blood flow, and poor diet could see a benefit.”

In November 2021, the Love & Hip Hop: New York alum shared her thoughts on her hair in an Instagram post.

“Why everytime I post my natural hair I hear ‘you’re MIXED you’re supposed to have long hair’? That’s not true and very misleading. I been posting pics of my hair journey for years and being mixed don’t mean your hair is always long and curly, that wasn’t my case,” she wrote alongside a photo of herself as a child. “Since I was a child I have problems with managing my hair and couple years ago I find different methods that work for me and look at my length now. They’ll try to make us believe our hair won’t grow this long it’s not true. A lot of hair products we used back then wasn’t good for our hair but that’s all we had to choose from also we couldn’t afford to get to the salon regularly, if at all. now everybody is getting better options, making affordable GOOD products, learning from natural hair YouTube and tiktok about how to care for our hair better.”

She added that she wants women of color with tighter curl patterns to know they don’t have “bad hair.”

“There’s no such thing as bad hair,” she explained. “And ‘good’ hair don’t mean a certain texture. ALL HAIR IS GOOD.”

While using onions in hair may seem unusual, the vegetable has been used in the beauty space for years in countries like India due to their suspected health benefits. According to publication Femina India, due to the high sulphur content in onion, it’s believed to help reduce breakage and the thinning of hair by helping the regeneration of hair follicles. Additionally, the veggie’s antifungal properties are thought to help maintain scalp health, which reduces hair loss and leads to healthier hair growth without dandruff.

Earlier this week, the Grammy-winning rapper also stripped down her glam to reveal her “mustache” and bare-faced complexion on social media.

“Forehead foreheading, mustache mustaching,” the Grammy winner captioned the Twitter photo.

In June, she also got real about her appearance on her Instagram Story. She shared that wanted to get a tummy tuck after giving birth to her son Wave last September.

At the time, the star revealed that she’s “a little heavier than usual,” adding about a section of her tummy, “I don’t like it. I want to get rid of it.”

Cardi continued in the clip, “I think Wavey did me wrong, so I cannot wait to put out this song and do more things so I can get the f— out and do my f—ing surgery. I’m over it.”

“Me and surgery goes together bad,” she joked.
