Why do people dislike a quiet person?

A quora user, Sarah Cherk, has answered an original question ”Why don’t people like a quiet person?”

Quiet people are too preoccupied with their thoughts to speak. The people who are the quietest are those who are within their heads. They have a habit of overthinking everything. They may want to start a discussion, but they’re too preoccupied with the conversation’s potential outcomes to do so.

It is okay to go quiet every once in a while. However, when quietness is part of our introverted personality, it is often perceived as something bad or a sign of weakness. For not speaking up, our silence is interpreted as being shy and having a lack of confidence

Well according to Sarah Cherk;

”Quiet people are not transparent. They don’t ‘think out loud’. They observe first and talk once they have something to say, usually purposeful. I suppose in some way it seems threatening and unsettling to some because they aren’t the predictable type and you can’t understand or read their intentions. The fear of the unknown, some think the quiet ones have something to hide or stay quiet to scheme. That they’re detached, uninterested, boring, passive-aggressive, arrogant or stupid. Far from it really.

”Empty vessels make the loudest noise while quiet people have the loudest minds.

”Coming from an introvert who’s been labeled as the ‘quiet girl’, i’m not shy or afraid to speak- far from it. I simply don’t waste my energy on immature or idiotic people. If I don’t talk to you, I simply don’t like you and would rather save my energy for later. I seem spaced out a lot but I am fully aware of everything, I just choose not to respond.

”Quiet people tend to get misunderstood a lot. We feel sufficient enough on our own or with a select group of friends whom we trust. We’ve simply matured from the need of people, rather valuing our own peace of mind and solitude instead.

”There’s nothing wrong with being quiet or an introvert. We are just being ourselves. Anyone can lose themselves when they’re constantly around people. Accepting and valuing solitude is a step closer to inner peace.”
