Why We Opposed Tobun’s Fourth Term Bid – EPIGG

The Coordinator of Epe Progressive Indigene for Good Governance (EPIGG), Mr. Olayemi Orunbon has said that the adoption of Lagos State Assembly Member, representing Epe Constituency I, Hon. Abiodun Mustainu Tobun by All Progressives Congress for fourth term would be restricted and vehemently opposed by the residents of the Epe Local Government Area of the state.

He described the endorsement of Assembly Member, Tobun as a charade capable of ridiculing the APC before voters in the Constituency I of the State, saying that some members of the party had adopted Tobun for fourth term at a primary election, held at the Government Chalet House, along popular fish Market, Oluwo, Oke-Oyinbo, Epe, Lagos State.

A statement from the group, signed by the Coordinator, Mr. Olayemi Orunbon described the endorsement process as an “effort in futility and a charade”, saying it is high time for the leaders of the party in Epe to desist and frown at repeating a candidate for such sensitive position three to fourth times consecutively.

.

The group faulted the process of the endorsement of Tobun, having served for third term consecutively, noting that the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate and the party itself would lose to opposition if Tobun eventually emerge the candidate of the party, as the mobilization against him is ongoing.

The statement advised the lawmaker to stop heating up polity of the Constituency with his “style of politics of exclusion, thuggery, arrogance, rogue and hatred.”

The statement reads in part: “We, Epe Indigene for Good Governance were embarrassed by the purported endorsement of Hon. Abiodun Mustainu Tobun for 2023 by some leaders of the party. The action is better described as an effort in nullity and a charade, indeed it is a slap on the entire Epe Indigene.

“We, wonder under which platform the endorsement was done since the masses of the Constituency were totally against his ambition for fourth term in office, We wonder if Tobun intends to run as an independent candidate. How can the endorsement of an aspirant, which is strictly a collective choice of masses become the responsibility of some groups or leaders.”

The group expressed disappointment that some elders of the party were misguiding the lawmaker for selfish interest and urged all members to remain calm as any endorsement done without due process was of no effect.

They appealed to the national leadership of the party to caution Tobun and his group to desist from actions capable of derailing the ongoing transition process in the party and the of the Epe local government area of Lagos State.
