Queen consort Camilla has made a surprising decision. The wife of King Charles III will not have ladies-in-waiting, something that Queen Elizabeth II did. By doing this, she has decided to dispense one of the oldest positions of the Royal House.
“The Queen consort will do things a little differently. At present she has two private secretaries who already carry out these functions.”
The ladies-in-waiting are in charge of supporting the queens with their personal correspondence, as well as helping them with the organization of the agenda and accompanying them in the public appearances they have scheduled.
“She has a good number of friends around her who she can call on for support if she needs it.”
The Queen consort had already made do without the ladies. Camilla is assisted by two private secretaries, who in addition to organizing her schedule as Duchess of Cornwall, already went with her to her public events.
The reason for this decision is to try to modernize the image of the Royal Household: “It will be Camilla’s former team who will carry out these duties.”
The Queen considers this measure more in line with the times and with her husband’s desire to slim down the monarchical institution, explains the Daily Mail.
