Wike: An executive order is only lawful when there’s no existing law – Commentary
Wike’s rascality in the name of EO is unhealthy for our democracy. An executive order is only lawful when there’s no existing law on the subject and does not cause injury to the fundamental human rights of the citizens.
The power to make laws solely reside in the legislature. Attempts to celebrate or overemphasized to executive order is dangerous for us all.
If Wike’s executive order specified punishment for default as destruction of property. The victim redress should start from declaring the EO as unconstitutional and cannot stand. He stands to make loads of money from the Rivers State government.
I pray he has the fortitude to go all the way to the supreme court.
We must allow the principle of separation of powers to hold supreme for the protection of us all. It is dangerous to allow the executive with all the powers at their disposal combined that of law making.
Wike’s rascality is undemocratic and should not be encouraged in my opinion.
