On Monday, a Sharia Court in Kaduna’s Magajin Gari ordered a housewife, Maryam Dahiru, to return N100,000 in dowry and the bags of clothes she received from her ex-husband, Salihu Yakubu.
Malam Rilwanu Kyaudai, the judge who delivered the verdict, validated the couple’s divorce through Khul’i (divorce by mutual Agreement).
“She will only return clothing that she hasn’t worn.” “The plaintiff has been granted permission by the court to remove her items from her ex-residence,” husband’s the judge decided.
Previously, Dahiru, through her attorney Murtala Gyallesu, had filed a complaint against her spouse on October 12, asking the court to annul their one-month-old marriage through Khul’i.
She stated that she was no longer interested in the marriage and was willing to return the dowry she had received in exchange for the divorce.
Yakubu, for his part, stated that he loved his wife and had no intention of divorcing her through his attorney, M. M. Dahiru.
Yakubu asked the court to force his ex-wife to return the marital luggage full of clothes he had given her as a present.
