Women and Youth in Dr. Godwin Maduka’s Developmental Agenda

Women and Youth in Dr. Godwin Maduka’s Developmental Agenda

In all prosperous nations, women and youths are integral part of the economy. The youths, in particular, are the catalysts for sustainable development. Thus any society desirous of genuine political, economic and social reforms formulates and implements women and youths’ friendly policies to bring positive changes and place the society on the path of progress.

That is exactly the key position of Anambra women and youths in Doctor Godwin Maduka’s Developmental Agenda, which provides both tremendous educational opportunities and economic power.

The Okosisi 1 of Orumba, an astute manager of people and resources, intends to make women and youths of Anambra, who are among the most cerebral and productive with a high creative energy waiting to be tapped, the foundation of the state’s development and prosperity.

This critical and deep insight formed his conscious decision to include them in his central-policy-focus:

First, the policy will effectively empower the youths with quality formal education at all levels. It will equip them with mechanical, technical and bankable vocational skills acquisition programmes that will open the way for a fulfilled and purposeful life.

Secondly, the women of Anambra, both in urban and rural areas, will not only receive marketable skills acquisitions and trainings that empower them to support themselves, their families and communities but will be provided with seed capitals.

This well-articulated policy will also support and cater for Anambra students in tertiary institutions, the disadvantaged, those failed by the education system, single parents and widows and the physically challenged.

It will also bring about gender-equality in the distribution of state resources and opportunities at all levels to make positive and measurable impacts in the lives of the beneficiaries.

Being a foresighted leader per excellence, Doctor Maduka’s vision of moving Anambra to the next level of human capital and economic development is unprecedented and bold. But the big question is: can he deliver on this robust and vibrant women and youths’ empowerment blueprint?

Across the twenty-one local government areas of Anambra State, the frontline governorship aspirant is a household name.

Everybody wishes to have and associate with him because his name is synonymous with verifiable women and youths’ empowerment and human capital development accomplishments.

Although a lot has been said about how he single-handedly developed his hometown, Umuchukwu, he believes that true greatness is not always all about material things. Greatness to him means sound character, truthfulness, loving and showing genuine compassion for the downtrodden. It also means helping people to live a better life, which he has been doing in the last twenty-one years.

This is the more reason he has vowed that his government will have a human face: a government that will never neglect the women and the youths, and everyone. That is his contract with the Ndi-Anambra as the November 2021 governorship election beckons!
