Would you take Coca-Cola infused with Marijuana ?

As cannabis start gaining legal power around the world, heavy weight marketers like Coke negotiate and plans best way to infuse Aurora Cannabis and Coca-Cola.

Coca-Cola is in positive discussions with a cannabis producer on how best to infuse Coca-Cola with marijuana, saying it will have health benefits such as easing inflammation, pain and cramping.

They are likely to use cannabidiol, known as CBD, to develop the drinks.

The CBD is the non-psychoactive ingredient found in cannabis that is said to help ease pain but without the buzz or high some users seek.

If Coca-Cola seals a contract with Aurora it would be the first major soft drinks firm to make a move into the marijuana market.

Canada is set to legalise the recreational use of cannabis next month as more states across the US make it legal.

Answering to speculations, the Aurora Cannabis Inc. on Tuesday said that it “engages in exploratory discussions” with industry players but that it has not signed a deal with any beverage company for marijuana-infused drinks.

“The company’s policy is not to comment on speculative media reports. The company does confirm that it engages in exploratory discussions with industry participants from time to time. At this time the company confirms there is no agreement, understanding or arrangement with respect to any partnership with a beverage company.”

The use of the word “exploratory” in the statement suggests that any discussions it is having with any beverage firm are at an early stage.

Before Aurora, Coke on Monday, 17th said via a statement that it is not interested in marijuana or cannabis but is studying the market with an eye toward beverages that contain one of the main active ingredients found in cannabis: cannabidiol, or CBD.

Unlike THC, this chemical does not have psychoactive effects on consumers. Instead, CBD could have possible health benefits – although clinical evidence for this is still limited at this time.

“We have no interest in marijuana or cannabis,” Coke said Monday in its press release. “Along with many others in the beverage industry, we are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world. The space is evolving quickly. No decisions have been made at this time.”

Meanwhile, Shares of Aurora rose 6.9 per cent by mid-day Tuesday, 18th September,  to $10.67.
