Youths attack Mbra Ngwe Irigwe Palace

Irate youths on Friday attacked the palace of Mbra Ngwe Irigwe, the paramount ruler of Irigwe land in Bassa local government area of Plateau State (His Royal Highness, the Bra Ngwe Irigwe, Rt. Rev Ronku Aka)

 

It was learnt the attack was over numerous attacks on residents of the area, which have resulted to many deaths and injuries.

 

Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) confirmed the attack.

It was rumoured the attack was carried out by aggrieved Irigwe youths.

A statement by the OPSH military information officer, Major Ishaku Takwa, said Troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN have been mobilised to the scene to ensure law and order.

He described the incident as a sacrilege, unacceptable and disrespectful to the traditional stool of their forefathers.

 

Igmala noted that the expression of grievances by the youths should not trample on the laws of the land.


He said as future leaders, they are expected to behave responsibly and contribute to the peace process established by the government to mediate in areas of conflict.

 

A statement by the Information Officer Bassa Local Government Council. Tina Monday Hudung, explained
the chairman appealed to the affected communities to imbibe patience during this trying moment.

 

He assured Ancha and other communities in the area that the local government is working with the Plateau peacebuilding agency and the inter-religious council to interface with communities to de-escalate tensions.

 

He acknowledged the efforts of the administration of Governor Simon Lalong to curtail the frequency of attacks on Innocent citizens in Bassa council.
