Residents of Abeke Road Community in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, erupted in jubilation as the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, donated a brand new transformer to the community.
PUNCH Metro gathered that residents of the locality could not hide their joy when the transformer was brought to the street and installed on Saturday, as they resorted to solidarity songs praising the commission for lightening up the community.
It was gathered that the project was facilitated by the DESOPADEC commissioner representing Sapele, Okpe and Ethiope West local government areas, Mr. Bright Abeke. The jubilant residents expressed thanks to the commissioner by singing praises with his name.
The DESOPADEC commissioner told journalists that residents of the community had been experiencing epileptic power for many years due to overloading of the only available transformer.
He remarked that when the management of Benin Electricity Distribution Company was notified, the electricity company tasked residents to come together to procure a new transformer, the cost of which was out of the reach of residents, hence, their decision to persist enduring with the epileptic power.
It was at this juncture that the DESOPADEC intervened by getting the community a new transformer to enable them enjoy better power supply.
The Head of Landlords at Abeke Road, Mr. Justice Opiopie, on behalf of the landlords and residents expressed gratitude to DESOPADEC for being sensitive to their plight, praying God to continue to use the commission to do greater things for the people in the mandate area.
