Bishop Godfrey Igwebuike: My stand on using electronic gadgets for sermons

During the installation of Lectors and Acolytes in Nsukka, the Catholic Bishop of the Nsukka Diocese, Most Rev. Prof. Godfrey Onah Igwebuike aired his stance on Catholic priests who use electronic gadgets to deliver their sermons.

According to the Catholic priest, it is wrong and unacceptable for a Catholic priest to deliver sermons with gadgets. However, he went further to share his reason for saying so.

Most Rev. Godfrey Onah said: “This is my kind advise to Deacons, Fathers and others, use your bravery, leave the Smartphone, leave the Laptops and other electronic gadgets when it comes to prayers & sermons. If you find yourself in a situation where you have no access to your Prayer Book or your sermon Book, rather than miss prayers, use your Smartphones.

“But if you look at the two and you say the Smartphone is easier and convenient, you have started descending the steps. Because when you can’t distinguish between the instrument of communication with human beings, (communication that is not always decent), and the instrument of communication with God, then something is fundamentally wrong with your sense of judgement.

“The day I delivered a Mass with an electronic gadget, I was not comfortable at all. It is unacceptable as a priest to deliver sermons with electronic gadgets all in the name of comfort and convenience”.
