What is new about Peter Obi?
- Tell me of any Governor in the history of Nigeria, who was called by a House of Assembly, that his own party has zero out of 30, and they told him that if he did not play ball, that they will impeach him, and he told to their faces, “I will not give you the money of Anambra people, it belongs to the public and I will not abuse it, if you must impeach me except I give you the money, by all means go ahead and impeach”.
Give me one person who has done it or can possibly do it.
- Tell me that Governor in Nigeria since 1999-date, dead or alive, who publicly presented the state account, stating total revenues and allocations, expenditures, and balance, giving the details of the accounts in broad day light.
- Tell me that Governor, who supported sovereign wealth fund savings for the future of Nigeria, amongst the Governors that served during the period of the two terms that Iweala served in FG, or any other time since 1999-date.
- Tell me that Governor, who believes that it is unethical, for former Governors to be on ridiculous pensions and emoluments, opposed the idea while he or she was serving, refused to partake of it after serving.
- Let us go a bit contextual. Do you know Anambra between 1999-2006? PDP held sway in the state at that time, do you recall? Do you recall the era of Chris Uba and Ngige after Mbadinuju and Emeka Offor? One man came, with a relatively unknown party, without any external support from anywhere, challenged the monsters, they stole the mandate in broad day light, he challenged it in court for 3 years, recovered the mandate, and yet served the state in an uncommon way.
- Before Peter Obi, Anambra State civil service was in rental apartments and containers scattered all over Awka, under Peter Obi Anambra built two mega State secreatriates side by side each other, bigger than that of Delta before Uduaghan and Okowa built a larger one. There was no accredited medical or nursing school owned by the state, under Peter Obi, two schools of nursing, College of Medicine for the state University with a teaching hospital and one of the best heart centers in Nigeria, and all professional courses were accredited, Engineering, Law, Architectire, etc; and a new campus for the State owned University.
Remind me of a similar thing done by any of the people contesting with him, whether in Lagos or Adamawa.
- That Onitsha is a bit sane today because Peter Obi embarked on the expansion of the Federal Road, from Onitsha head bridge, did wide drains, added the 4 service lanes, to the Zik roundabout, and took the major highway to the toll gate. The refunds came under his successor. He cleaned up the Federal Road within the Awka atterial highway and expanded it.
- The revolution in public schools, for which I am aware that parents are sending their wards from major cities like Abuja and Lagos, to attend public schools in Anambra. Private schools in Anambra are meant for low performing pupils, especially in the Onitsha and Awka Metropolis. To get admissions in those schools now is a feet, because of standards, yet they are cheaper than the private schools. Let me not fail to mention that even the private schools that are built for profoliteering were not left out as Peter provided support funds, all to elevate basic schools in Anambra.
ALL THESE AND MORE HE DID
a) WITHOUT BORROWING A DIME FROM ANY BANK OR INSTITUTION LOCAL OR FOREIGN.
b) WITHOUT INCREASING TAX BURDEN ON CITIZENS, INSTEAD HE GAVE TAX WAIVERS TO NEW COMPANIES THAT SPRANG UP UNDER HIM, ENABLED BY HIS JOB CREATION POLICY.
c) WITHOUT OWNING A SINGLE CIVIL SERVANT OF SALARIES, PENSION, OR GRATITUITY FOR RETIREE.
d) WITHOUT OWING A SINGLE CONTRACTOR OR SUPPLIER WHOSE VALUATION IS DUE AS AT MARCH 17 2014 WHEN HE LEFT OFFICE.
e) YET LET UNPRECEDENTED, PUBLISHED, AND VERIFIABLE SAVINGS AND INVESTMENT FOR THE STATE.
I am waiting for you to give me an equivalence of such feat by a state governor, even those with oil rich funds, who touched all sectors of a state with evident turn around. And yet you tell me he is not different.
