KWASU Engineers successfully converts gasoline vehicle to electric

In a groundbreaking development, a remarkable team of engineers from Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has successfully transformed a conventional gasoline vehicle into an efficient electric marvel. The electric vehicle, which boasts seamless functionality with a range of accessories, is garnering attention as a prime example of innovative prowess and a step towards curbing reliance on fossil fuels.

This remarkable feat, achieved under the leadership of KWASU’s Head of Technical Unit Centre for Sustainable Energy, AbdulAzeez Akande, and with the support of Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Shaykh Lukman Jimoh, signifies a monumental leap in embracing cleaner energy alternatives. As the world shifts towards reducing its carbon footprint, this achievement aligns with global efforts and reinforces the commitment to minimizing the impacts of fuel subsidies removal.

 

The governor of Kwara, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has ordered the immediate use of electric vehicles on campuses for the benefit of students in the state.

Abdulrazaq said this via a statement disclosing that he inspected an electric vehicle that a team of engineers in Kwara State had successfully converted from a gasoline engine.

 

The governor who carried out the inspection on Thursday, August 24th, added that the technology was carried out by a team of great engineers from the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete and the vehicle works perfectly with different accessories.

“For a start, I have directed the team to convert some government vehicles to use electricity for immediate deployment on campuses for the benefits of our students,” he said.

“This is innovation at its finest, and a clear indication that we are fast turning the corners as our country steadily joins the world to reduce over-reliance on fossil fuel and adopt cleaner energy.

“This innovation could not have come at a better time as governments at all levels make different efforts to ease the inconveniences associated with the removal of fuel subsidy.”

Abdulrazaq commended the team of engineers led by KWASU’s Head of Technical Unit Centre for Sustainable Energy and Chief Technologist at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, AbdulAzeez Akande.

The Kwara state governor also commended the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Shaykh Lukman Jimoh, who led the team to Government House Thursday evening, all of them driven in the electric vehicle.

He assured the team of his administration’s constant support as they do more to deploy technology and their own will-power to make life worth more living for people.

 

With this pioneering innovation, Kwara State has firmly positioned itself in the vanguard of environmentally conscious progress. The successful conversion of a gasoline vehicle to electric not only serves as a beacon of technological advancement but also signifies a brighter and cleaner future for the region.
