Oba of Lagos to Igbo community: 'Collaborate with Lagos State government'

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has appealed to the Igbo community to collaborate with the Lagos State government and demonstrate respect for the “owners of the land.”

The statement comes in response to grievances from some Igbos residing in Lagos, who expressed concerns over the demolition of their properties and shops by the state government.

 

Addressing the issue, Oba Akiolu who having met with the President-General of Ohanaeze, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu asserted that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu would not intentionally demolish properties, emphasizing the need for understanding and adherence to established rules.

He acknowledged the industrious nature of the Igbo community while urging them to align with the state government to collectively address challenges and contribute to the progress of Lagos.

 

“We know Igbos are very hardworking, but you have to respect the owners of the land. We have identified the problem in Nigeria, and what we want is a solution,” stated Oba Akiolu during the meeting.

 

He further extended reassurance to the Igbo community, stating, “To the Igbo, anybody who wishes the best for Lagos is a Lagosian. I assure Ndigbo that nobody will maliciously mistreat you. All of you should cooperate with the Lagos government to move the state forward.”
