Women have been admonished to take adequate care of their health, in order to live a healthy and purposeful life.

Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, gave the admonition during a sensitisation programme by the Board, in collaboration with the Society for Family Health (SFH), to commemorate Year 2024 International Women’s Day.

Dr. Ogunsola, who was represented by the Director, Community and Family Health Services, Mr. Olugbenga Idowu, while speaking on the theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”, said the health and well-being of women and girls requires adequate investment, as there was a need for mothers to be better informed of lifelong benefits for coming generations.

Ogunsola, according to the Board’s Press Officer, Mrs. Fatimah Alatishe, added that children should be provided with better nutrition, active lifestyle, instil cleanliness and hygiene among others, promising that the health of women and children would be of priority to the state government.

Speaking, representative of SFH, Mr. Seyi Ajayi, noted that the theme was a reminder of the journey towards gender equality which involved recognising the importance of self-care in the lives of women, saying the female gender need to be aware of the self-injectable family planning method, as it serves as a fundamental aspect of Self Reproductive Health.

Responding on behalf of the participants, Mrs. Abibatu Adeboye, appreciated the state government and SFH for the programme, promising to make their health paramount and key into the self-injectable method.

Highlight of the event was the practical demonstration of self-injection contraceptive.
