Only old people will feature in my administration, no room for youths – Shaibu

Edo 2024: PDP will lose if party fails to field me as candidate – Shaibu

The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has relegated youths in Edo State, labeling them unprofessionals and unintelligent, and as such, not good enough to feature in his administration, if he becomes Governor.

Shaibu, who is 54 years old, said he cannot listen to youths because they are too small to advise him.

In a video interview granted recently on Arise TV’s The Morning Show, Shaibu said, “…I will not be a Governor that my advisers will be younger than me, my advisers must be old, people I can listen to; I am going to be having special advisers that I can listen to because they are gurus, experts.”

Philip Shaibu joined Edo politics as a youth, during when he became Member, Edo State House of Assembly, Member, House of Reps, now Deputy Governor; even at 54, he is still considered a youth, that the Deputy Governor went on national tv to relegate Edo youths is shocking and distasteful and casts doubt on his commitment to youth development.

Shaibu’s submission on tv against Edo youths is not only shocking, but an insult on the body of hardworking Edo youths, people now making their marks in their various endeavours.

“It is embarrassing for a Governorship aspirant to go on national tv to insult the same people he aspires to govern, no doubt, this unfortunate development will further dampen the embattled Deputy Governor’s chance in his desperation to be Governor”, Osaretin, a young Edo lawyer noted.

“We will advise the Deputy Governor to steer clear of tv and radio interviews for now, get back to his cocoon, polish his public image and prepare for 2032, in any case he may still be interested to govern Edo”, the lawyer added.

Meanwhile, Philip Shaibu, has expressed his sense of betrayal by his principal, Godwin Obaseki, for not backing his candidature in the upcoming 2024 governorship election.

Shaibu, who claims he was persuaded to be the deputy governor to Obaseki, said he added value to Obaseki’s government in terms of political structure and his finances.

Shaibu said he was hurt that Obaseki is supporting an outsider instead of him.
