Spotlighting the People and Cultural Heritage of Itu

Itu Local Government Area, situated in Nigeria, is surrounded by Odukpani, Cross River State, and Arochukwu, Abia State to the North and Northeast, Ibiono Ibom and Ikono Local Government Areas to the West, and Uyo and Uruan Local Government Areas to the South and Southeast.

Lieutenant Colonel Yakubu Bako inaugurated Itu Local Government Area on May 17, 1994.

 

Primarily an agrarian community, Itu thrives on farming, yielding crops like gmelina, raffia palm, oil palm, and plantain. The region also boasts mineral deposits such as crude oil, salt, limestone, and granite.

Fishing contributes significantly to the economy, thanks to the abundance of fish in the local waterways. Trade and crafts are additional key industries.

 

Itu as a Local Government as an abundance of sumptuous local delicacies including; Otor mbóro, Àsà iwà, Èkpañ ñķukwò, ùsuñ iķpoñ, among others.
