Ondo State to host Diaspora Investment Summit

The Ondo State Governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, said the developmental blueprint being used by Ondo State was designed by Dr Olusegun Agagu.

He showered encomiums on the late former governor of the state, describing him as an administrator par excellence.

 

Akeredolu said the successive administrations have been adopting the developmental policy blueprint designed by the Agagu administration to move the state forward.

The Ondo Governor stated this during the 10th remembrance anniversary and colloquium for the late former governor of the state, in Akure, the state capital on Friday.

 

Represented at the occasion by the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Olayato Aribo, the governor described the late Agagu as a great administrator who believed in transparency and accountability in order to enthrone good governance and curtail corruption.

 

He said, “One will not easily forget his introduction of a developmental policy blueprint ‘Ondo State Roadmap to Progress, 2003-2007: that the sun might shine again’. Successive administrations have taken after him to form their policy documents, including our 8-point ‘REDEEMED Agenda’.

“We will not forget his practicability as deputy governor in using his resourcefulness, knowledge and profession as a geologist, to influence Ondo State in becoming an oil-producing State. We all are enjoying this till today in terms of an expanded economy. He was also the Minister of Aviation and later Minister for Power and Steel, which also brought us many dividends in Ondo State.

“If not for the truncation of his administration, he had great plans to bring to reality and completion bitumen exploration, Olokola Free Trade Zone, Omotosho Power Plant, Ondo Seaport and others.”

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Agagu Remembrance Anniversary Organising Committee and former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr Victor Olabimtan, said the late former governor was not only a unifying factor while alive but a bridge builder who also served the state with his everything

“Agagu was a unifying factor while alive. Even in death, his spirit has continued along the path of altruistic service to humanity. Today, we remember not only his departure but also the countless moments of joy and love that painted our lives in the colours of his spirit,” Olabimtan stressed.

 

The former governor passed away on September 13, 2013, at the age of 65 and was buried at his hometown, Iju Odo in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state.
