Youths threaten showdown with Adokiye Tombomieye

Youths under the aegis of the Niger Delta Liberation Movement (NDLM) have threatened a showdown with the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Upstream, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Adokiye Tombomieye, for creating division in the region.

The youths accused Adokiye of engaging in activities that had created tension and threatened the peace of the region.

Leaders of the group, Mr. Isreal Agbawo and Goodnews German, in a statement in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, said while youth leaders were busy working to sustain the peace in Niger Delta, Adokiye was preoccupied with fanning ambers of discord among the youths.

They said Adokiye’s actions since he was appointed into his new position in NNPC were a clear indication that he did not mean well for the Niger Delta.

They said: “One would have expected Adokiye to use his office to promote peace and unity in the region in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s disposition, but he has instead done the opposite.

“He has turned himself into an agent of division and disunity in the region. His actions have pitted youths against each other creating unnecessary tension in our region.

“We won’t fold our hands and allow Adokiye to use a position he occupies in the name of the Niger Delta region to cause crisis in the region.

“We are notifying the general public of our intention to challenge Adokiye by holding peaceful protest to call for his resignation. We are currently organising a mother of all protest that will hold in Abuja continuously until he resigns from his office”.
