BENIN PRISON BREAK: Human rights activist and former Minister of Education in Nigeria, Oby Ezekwesili has affirmed that the END SARS protesters are not responsible for the Benin Jailbreak.
According to her, Buhari should be mindful of the kind of game he’s trying to play with the peaceful protesters seeking an end to police brutality in the country.
Earlier on Monday the 19th of October, GBETU reported that there has been a jail break-in in Benin prison as some inmates were seen climbing out from the fence. Though there has not been any verifiable news about the cause of the jailbreak, the End Sars protesters have refuted having anything to do with the Jailbreak which saw quite a number of inmates regain their freedom unlawfully.
Reacting to the incident, the Anambra State-born Chartered Accountant and former Presidential Candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria, in a thread of tweets, relayed that while the young End SARS protesters point the country toward an innovative future that can compare to global standards, the government kept acting in opposite direction.
Oby stated that the government is working in opposite direction with outdated strong-arm tactics.
Narrating further, Oby reminded Buhari while advising him to protect the protesters who are exercising their constitutional rights to stop the expensive joke he’s trying to play.
“The EndSARS protesters have been peaceful and should not be held responsible for the Benin jailbreak,” she wrote to Buhari.
“We have all been watching all week how these protesters conduct their protests almost like a community renewal program by looking out for one another; How will they suddenly go and break prison in Benin”? She wrote.
