Officers of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have intercepted a truck with arms and ammunitions on Sunday in Kebbi State.
This was contained in a statement by Customs’ Controller of Federal Operation Unit, Zone B, Kebbi, Hamisu Albashir.
According to the statement, the officers of the Unit on information patrol along Yauri, Zamare water side in Kebbi intercepted the truck loaded with locally produced rice with some sacks concealed under the rice.
The statement added that upon careful examination, the bags were found to contain 73 locally manufactured guns and 891 cartridges.
“Upon careful examination, the sacks were found to contain the weapons.”
He said the arms smugglers were coming from neighbouring Niger Republic before they were apprehended at Zamare/Yauri Axis of Kebbi State.
The PRO said that three persons were arrested and detained while a preliminary investigation is ongoing.
“The suspects are being detained while preliminary investigation is ongoing.
The items recovered include 73 locally made guns and 891 cartridges which were all hidden inside bags of rice.
The Nigerian Customs Service via its verified Twitter page also confirmed the incident in a series of tweets which reads;
