The Director General of South East Governors’ Forum, Uche Ekwunife, CON, has congratulated the Okpuno community on the successful celebration of their 2023 annual New Yam Festival.
The auspicious event which was held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the traditional ruler’s palace was well attended by members of Igwe-in-council, Chieftaincy holders and other members of the community.
In her congratulatory message, Ekwunife noted that the significance of the New Yam festival cannot be underestimated in Igboland, adding that it serves as a platform to deepen the bond of love, peace and unity in different communities.
The DG of SEGF hailed the traditional ruler, His Majesty Igwe Engr. Sunday Isaac Okafor for effortlessly upholding the custom, culture and tradition of its people especially for his continued effort in fostering peace and harmony in the community.
“I share a special bond with the people of Okpuno community and I’m here to identify with the traditional ruler on this annual festival. Our culture is our pride and we must collectively do everything possible to uphold it. As a member of the Igwe’s cabinet, I share a special bond with the people of Okpuno and I’m here to identify with the traditional ruler”, Ekwunife noted.
Ekwunife on behalf of her family and staff extended congratulations to Igwe Engr Okafor and prayed God to bless his reign with longevity.
