Emir in Aba: Barbaric, Satanic, says Ohanaeze

Ohanaeze Visits Alaba Market

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has accused politicians of being behind the recent move to attempt to install an Emir in Aba.

The pan-Igbo group queried the timing and secrecy of attempts by politicians to foist an Emir on the people of Aba.

In a statement by its Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze said except for sinister motives aimed at destroying the economic hub centre of the South-East by creating insecurity situations to win elections through the back doors, the move will destabilise the most peaceful town through provocation and imposition of an alien culture which will lead to religious and tribal clashes and combats.

Ohanaeze traced the genesis of the killings, and insecurity challenges in Imo State to the events of February 26, 2020, when the Imo State Government received the new Imam of Owerri.

The statement read, “It was reported that Governor Hope Uzodinma had installed the Emir of Imo State, this was seen as anathema and atrociousness committed by Imo government against Ndi-Imo and Ndigbo.

“Irrespective of the explanations by the Imo government, the Biafra agitators especially, IPOB and MASSOB declared war on the governor and hoodlums and criminals capitalised on these anti-people policies of the government which the installation of Emir of Imo was the height of it to carry out their nefarious activities in the state, and Imo government has never recovered from the fallout of such obnoxious policy.”

Ndigbo commended the government of Abia State for the swift responses and banning of the secret installation of the Emir of Aba and the Emirate council.

“Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s timely intervention halted the violence and chaos that would have followed such induction of an Emirate council in Aba, we are aware that desperate Abuja-based political jobbers and corrupt individuals were behind the scenes actors working tirelessly to ensure that Aba should be on flames in other to have reprisal attacks on Igbos living in 19 northern states.

“It is barbaric, satanic, and mischievous endeavours to commence the unending crisis in Aba using the most provocative spears on Ndigbo, an unknown Emir of Aba against Prominent Traditional stools and Rules of Aba,” he added.
