Esther Chidinma Michael Emeh, (stage name Estar Mykel) is a seasoned musician who studied music and majored in voice at the Ballanta Academy of Music, Sierra Leone.
She started way back as a little girl singing in the children’s choir, and as she grew up she decided to pursue her dreams in the Arts. After graduating from the music academy, she taught music (voice) for a while.
Esther Michael has some of her works gracing the screens across Africa. She did the movie soundtrack and video for the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Award best movie nominated film for 2015, ‘Reflections’, produced by one of Africa’s renowned actor and director Desmond Elliot. She also sang the 2014 Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Award movie soundtrack, ‘Thontola’, which was produced in Malawi.
Esther was born into a Christian home, to a loving father and mother. Unfortunately, her mother died before she turned 15. She struggled through college and eventually dropped out, but she had one thing in her mind, ‘no matter how elusive success is, I will lay my hands on it’. She rose above all the discouragements and negativity around her. She took strength in music and in theArts; expressing her pain through writing, and inspiring people all over Africa. She is a young woman set to change her world and to inspire many other young women to be the best they can be.
As a Musician she has worked on several awareness campaignsongs. She is an ambassador for ‘Mamaye’, fighting a cause for women and children. As a member of the Female Musician Union of Sierra Leone, she has worked collaboratively with other female musicians and produced a music video for a fight against the Ebola Epidemic. She also released a track to support women and children that have been affected by Ebola.
Esther Chidinma Michael Emeh has a heart for girls and women.Women are vulnerable and have not been treated well for centuries, becoming the downtrodden of the society – she then has decided to create an umbrella for young women who love the Arts. She founded her organization, Music for Girls Initiative Africa which is geared towards providing support and empowerment for women and girls.
Esther Michael carried out a program tagged, “A day out with Estar Mykel”, on the 7th of May 2016 with 50 secondary school girls from 10 different schools and they were trained in several handcraft works. she continues to affect her world positively through the empowerment of women and girls.
Her 2016 concert tagged, “Music to Freedom”, was a huge success, as it touched the lives of so many girls in different ways. She continues to write and record beautiful songs, and goes on tirelessly with her humanitarian works. She has won several awards in the music scene as well as the humanitarian scene, as she was recently honoured in Ghana with The International Award for Volunteerism and Patriotism.
