Failure To Treat Fulani As Citizens Responsible For Insecurity In Nigeria – Gumi

Why Christians can not be trusted with Nigeria’s security – Gumi

Kaduna Based Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Gumi has said that failure to treat Fulani as Citizens is responsible for Insecurity in Nigeria.

The Fulanis are nomads who conquered some parts of Nigeria years back, and have for years smartly infilterated the Nigeria government and now controls it. But their ultimate aim have always been to be recognize as citizens.

Fulani, also called Peul or Fulbe, is primarily Muslim people scattered throughout many parts of Africa, mostly in West Africa from Lake Chad in the east to the Atlantic coast. They are concentrated principally in Nigeria, Mali, Guinea, Senegal, and Niger but can also be found in several other countries.

The Fulani were early adopters of Islam, participating in holy wars, or jihads, in the 16th Century that established them as a dominant social and economic force in Western Africa.

They have smartly been dealing with Nigeria for almost a century now.

Speaking on citizenship, Gumi says;

“What do you expect from a society (Fulani) that was left in total ignorance and lack of education, especially when their primary means of livelihood (cattle) has been completely rustled by other criminal elements within and outside our security agencies without any effort by the government to address the injustice.

“As I talk to you now, cattle rustling has not stopped. Many law-abiding Fulanis have fallen victims to the official extortion of their cows. I have well-documented evidence involving some security agents in which I personally intervened. How do you expect as a government to address insecurity, especially related to Fulani bandits without addressing such instances of extortion and rustling?
