Insecurity: Wike and Falana speaks with one voice against politicians

Funmi Falana, wife to Human Right activist, Femi Falana and Gov. Nyesome Wike of Rivers state have made their stand on politicians who are not performing.

According to Mrs Funmi Falana, President Buhari and the 36 state governors should resign if they are unable to tackle insecurity.

Speaking in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State, during her yearly New Year celebration with motherless children, Funmi stated that Nigerians are afraid to go out because they are unsure of their security.

She said;

“Nigerians are afraid to go out, Nigerians fear for their lives, they are afraid for their security. It is very sad. Nobody ever envisaged that Nigeria will get to a situation like this.

“There is the need to do something about the security of the citizens. A government that is unable to guarantee the security of the citizens is a failed government, so if they cannot protect the Nigerian people, the governments have failed.

“We are using this opportunity to remind them that it is the constitutional responsibility of the government under Chapter Two of the constitution to provide security for the people. It is as if they are helpless, if they are helpless, let them resign and let us know that we don’t have government.”

Also, Gov. Nyesom Wike, declared that politicians can no longer be tolerated if their strength is only to make promises without the capacity and will to fulfil them.

Wike made the declaration at the inauguration of the Isiodu Road in Emohua Local Government Area, which was performed by the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe.

The governor, in a statement issued by his media aide, Kelvin Ebiri, said there must be accountability among politicians, adding that anybody seeking elective position should not only nurse such ambition without having requisite competence to deliver on projects and services.

“If you want to be a councillor, council chairman, a senator, a governor or Mr. President, you know there are problems in Nigeria that you want to solve. You shouldn’t come after securing the position to say, ‘I’m sorry I couldn’t do that thing I promised because of the problems we are having’.

“Your business is to solve problems. It is not to give excuses why that problem cannot be solved. Politics is no longer rhetoric. It is no longer making promises and after voting, you abandon the people.

“Now, politicians should be held accountable for every promise they make. In that way, everybody will know that when you are bringing people for elective position, they must be people who will say something and fulfil it. This is not the period of excuses,” he said.

The governor said no local government in Rivers State had been deprived of developmental projects.

According to him, projects are been delivered to them as fulfilment of election promises because the people need to feel the impact of the state government.

“If a man says he is close to government, his people expect him to bring something in return. Look at Chief Sergent Awuse and others who believe in this government; Paul Wonodi says he believes in this government. They have brought projects back home from the government that they believe in.

“Let me make you another promise; we must link you to Ogbodo community in Ikwerre Local Government. I did say that our administration will impact every local government area in the state. There is no local government in this state that we will not go and inaugurate one or two projects,” he stated.

Inaugurating the road project, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, noted that the people of Emohua would not relent in believing in the Wike, describing the governor as a leader who delivers on his promises.
