In the interest of fairness and justice and based on ethics, Hon. Helen Ogunwumiju JSC should immidiately recuse herself from the Supreme Court Panel that will hear on Monday, 23rd Oct 2023, the Presidential Election Appeal filed by Atiku & Peter Obi seeking to set aside the erroneous judgment of Tsammani-led presidential election tribunal.

Helen Ogunwumiju JSC is the mother of Kehinde Ogunwumiju, SAN. Mr. Kehinde is currently one of APC’s and Bola Tinubu’s lawyers, both at the presidential tribunal and now at the Supreme Court. He will be presenting a case for judgment before his own mother.

Helen Ogunwumiju JSC is also the mother of an Ondo State sitting legislator, Mr. Otumba Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju, who won his election on the platform of APC.

Supreme Court Justice Helen Ogunwumiju JSC can not and will not dispense justice in a case involving her family and children’s interests. She will certainly be biased and will undoubtedly work for the interest of her children and family. Under these circumstances, mother justice, who was supposed to be blind would surely deliver judgment with her eyes wide open. The natural motherly instinct of protecting and defending the interest of her children will be at play in the Supreme Court.

…calling on CJN Olukayode Ariwoola and the National judicial council to wade in immediately and replace Hon. Justice Helen Ogunwumiju from the 7-man panel and ensure she does not become a judge in her own case. This call is driven by ethics. There’s nothing personal against Hon. Justice Helen Ogunwumiju JSC.
