The distance jabs between KWAM1 and the Alaafin, because of a woman and by a blogger will always ring a bell in Yoruba land and for those interested in this tribe.
Fuji music star, Mayegun Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, aka KWAM 1, was the target of damaging reports last year claiming he was involved in a relationship with Olori Ajoke, the now estranged wife of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.
It was a disturbing time for the legendary singer who couldn’t understand where such a dangerous rumour emanated from.
He blew hot, stating that the rumours were from the pit of hell and spread by those whose aim was to drag his name to the mud. He called the rumour-mongers agents of Lucifer who were determined to see him go to the ground just for being conferred with the title of Mayegun of Yorubaland.
Well, if the rumour was put out to turn the Alaafin against Marshal, it failed woefully as the monarch’s affection for the singer has grown stronger.
As KWAM 1 turned 64 on Wednesday, he was celebrated by all and sundry. It was as if social media space was reserved for him on the day as special birthday messages, adverts and photos were dedicated to the musician.
The Alaafin reserved special praises for the Mayegun, describing him as a music luminary whose melodious beats were not only pleasing to the ears and mind but also nurturing for the soul.
In a congratulatory message by his Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, Oba Adeyemi said: “Human creatures are born with a specific purpose and mission. The mission varies with individuals, but not without obstacles, which comes in the form of a distraction.”
The Oba continued: “Without doubt, it takes some people a lot of time before they realize essentially what their mission is, whilst very unfortunately, it takes some other individuals their lifetime before they understand what the essence of their birth implies.
“The implication is that a situation could arise whereby the lack of realization of someone’s mission might lead others, or multitude astray, because like a chain, we are all connected imaginarily, one way or the other…
