Man To Court: I will Grant my Wife Divorce If She Pays me N1m

My Wife Sleeps With Co-tenants, Man Tells Court

In a recent session at the Upper Area Court in Kubwa, FCT, businessman Nasiru Yunusa declared his willingness to grant his wife, Aisha Hamisu, a divorce only if she agrees to pay him N1 million.

Yunusa and Hamisu, who entered into marriage under Islamic laws in 2021, found themselves in court after Hamisu cited lack of care and respect as grounds for seeking the dissolution of their union. She revealed that Yunusa had relocated her belongings to her father’s house on April 19, 2022.

Contrary to her plea to end the marriage, Yunusa expressed a desire for Hamisu to return to their shared residence but insisted on financial compensation for the troubles endured during the legal proceedings. He claimed to have spent N1 million, a sum he expressed readiness to prove.

In response, Hamisu disputed Yunusa’s financial claims, stating that she had been living with her parents for the past two and a half years after he left her belongings at their doorstep. She further revealed that Yunusa did not contribute financially to her cesarean section expenses at Kubwa General Hospital when she gave birth to their 13-month-old daughter.

The plaintiff, not wanting to reconcile, offered to repay Yunusa the dowry of N50,000 as a gesture of closure. The presiding Judge, Mohammed Wakili, adjourned the case until January 8 for the continuation of the hearing.
