Nnamdi Kanu: Ohanaeze hails South-East NASS caucus intervention

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, has hailed the Southeast Caucus in the National Assembly for their decision to take up Nnamdi Kanu’s matter.

Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has been detention ever since he was repatriated from Kenya.

The development has continued to heighten tension in the South-East zone.

After their meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, the caucus said in a communiqué that it would champion a political solution to the problem.

They said in the communiqué that “we discussed the issue of Mazi Nnamdi and resolved to intervene. To this end we resolved to set up a committee to constructively interface with relevant stakeholders, the Federal Government and its relevant agencies towards finding a political solution. We will keep Ndigbo abreast of developments in regard.”

In a reaction, the OYC President-General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike said the decision of the Federal lawmakers was heartwarming.

“We have been shouting on top of our voices that only a political solution is the way out of this problem.

“Nnamdi Kanu is a political prisoner and only a political solution will set him free. So, we the Igbo youths thank the lawmakers for rising up to the occasion. They have further endeared themselves to the masses by this singular act,” Okwu said.

While thanking the IPOB for cancelling the Monday sit-at-home protest, the OYC said it should further make sure that hoodlums don’t mess up its movement.

“We say this, especially with the ugly incidents of Monday where WAEC examination was disrupted. A bus supplying bread was also attacked and set ablaze on Tuesday.

“These actions are alien to Igboland and that is why we believe seriously that fifth columnists are at work and must be fished out.

“Ndigbo must unite together now and fight our common enemy and not kill ourselves. We should not make South-East a laughing stock before the nations of the world,” Okwu advised.
