The Ogun State Health Educators have been trained on strategic means of information delivery in order to improve the social behavioural change in accessing quality healthcare through community engagement.
The Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, spoke at the opening of a 3-day training for the officers, organised by the State Primary Health Care Development Board in conjunction with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Ijebu-Ode.
Dr. Ogunsola in a statement signed by Mrs. Fatimah Alatishe, Press Officer, Primary Health Care Development Board, said the present government was determined to build the capacity of Health Education Officers across the 20 Local Government Areas, to aid their efficiency.
He stated that the workshop was aimed at stimulating Social Behavioural Change-Community Engagement (SBC-CE) at the State and Local Government levels, noting that it was imperative for Health Educators to be abreast of new trends in mobilisation and community engagement in the implementation of health policies and programmes of government.
He enjoined the participants to take advantage of the training to learn and put into practice the knowledge gained.
In her goodwill messages, a UNICEF SBC Specialist, Mrs. Aderonke Akinola-Akinwole commended the efforts of the state government in strengthening its health system, noting that the state was the pioneer to launch the capacity-building programme among the seven UNICEF supporting States.
Responding on behalf of the participants, Chairman of the Health Educators Forum, Mr. Felix Adeleye appreciated the state government, board and UNICEF for organising the training, assuring that the Health Education Officers would not relent in ensuring the success of any health intervention programmes.
