Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell got intimately acquainted while filming the romantic comedy Anyone But You.

“We both had the best time looking stupid on this movie together,” says Glen Powell, who strips down for laughs in ‘Anyone But You’

In the new issue of PEOPLE, the Euphoria Emmy nominee, 26, and the Top Gun: Maverick actor, 35, discuss Powell’s hilarious nude scene in film.

Sweeney plays Bea, a Boston University law school student who has a meet-cute with charming finance bro Ben (Powell). After their first (and only) date goes south, they later find themselves both headed to the same destination wedding in Australia.

To prevent their well-intentioned loved ones (including Bea’s parents, played by Dermot Mulroney and Rachel Griffiths) from meddling in their personal lives, Ben and Bea decide to pretend to be a couple. Their showmance leads to several awkward moments, including one which occurs on a group hike.

After Bea discovers a spider on Ben, he quickly sheds all his clothing and bends over, asking Bea to inspect his body to make sure no other arachnids are hiding out anywhere.

Asked about that filming that moment, Sweeney quips, “I think I’ve seen…”

“You’re the only person who’s seen!” Powell chimes in.

After that day on set, “we’re really good friends,” Sweeney tells Powell, who jokes they now have a “different type of handshake.”

Powell says he remembers what he was thinking while the scene unfolded. “That was the moment where I thought this could be the end of my career, right here, right now on this cliff side,” he jokes.

Nevertheless, the actor says he felt fully at ease in those moments with Sweeney.

“The key to a great partner in that journey is someone who’s not afraid to look dumb, and who’s in it with you, and not protective. Sydney’s just vulnerable. She just throws her heart onto film and throws herself in the deep end, and is the first person to be goofy in front of everybody,” he says.

“I think that’s the one thing that we had, is that we both just had the best time looking stupid on this movie together. I think it makes for really, really great chemistry,” he continues.

A healthy dose of self-tanner helped him feel comfortable stripping down, too, he adds.

“I had a wonderful makeup artist who would tan every inch of my body by hand,” he says.
