There Was An Attempt To Burgle Residence Of Buhari’s Chief Of Staff, Says Presidency

A gang of Armed robbers have reportedly attacked the residences of Agboola Gambari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari and an Admin Officer, Abubakar Maikano within the premises of the Presidential Villa, Aso-Rock, Abuja.

According to Peoples Gazette, the incident which occurred on May 9th, has caused both Gambari and Maikano to temporarily abandon their residences.

A source told the news website; “Their houses were robbed and the robbers packed money and other valuable assets from both houses,”.

“The robbers took away as much as possible from both places,” a security officer that confirmed the incident said.

“What is more unfortunate is that no one has been arrested.”. This development has heightened calls for urgent action on the rising spate of insecurity in the country. The Presidential Villa is one of the most secured areas in the country and no explanation has reportedly been rendered on the incident.

Responding in a terse statement on Monday night, Malam Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, said, “The Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari has confirmed that there “was a foolish attempt” to burgle his residence at 3:00am this morning but it turned out to be unsuccessful.

“Professor Gambari, whose house is on a street next to the Villa has assured that there is nothing to worry about from the incident.”

Gambari succeeded the late Abba Kyari, who died in a Lagos hospital while treating coronavirus in April 2020.

The news of an attempt to rob Gambari comes at a time when robbery and kidnapping are widespread in the country.

The government of Buhari has been under intense pressure as a result of the insecurity in the country.
