ASARI DOKUBO’S MILITIA: A RECIPE FOR ANARCHY

ASARI DOKUBO'S MILITIA: A RECIPE FOR ANARCHY

I just said anarchy, but it’s simply an understatement and a moderate rendition of an extremely volatile situation.

The truth is, there would be massive shedding of blood if urgent steps are not taken to halt the illegality.

We seem to be indifferently, nonchalantly, and helplessly looking on to a very precarious situation that is assuredly but gradually metamorphosing into something we can’t be able to handle.

Whichever or whoever is presently profiting from this illegality and highly combustible rascality, should understand the inestimable price that shall be incurred in the long run.

Are we saying that there is no enlightened and dollar-insulated military officer to call the President’s and Dokubo’s bluff?

Are we saying that there is no security informed member in the National Security Council to understand the risk factor of this Dokubo’s militia?

Are we saying that there is no discerning mind in the National Executive Council to see through this façade of securing Nigeria by militia group?

Are we bereft of intelligent members in the National Assembly to know the national security implications of Dokubo’s self-styled superior security outfit?

What kind of gross insensitivity and incompetence is this; that you relegate the entire nation’s security architecture to incapacity just to honour a party sycophant?

Are we so daft to understand the implications of Dokubo’s boasting of his relationship with Presidents of nations? Are we feigning ignorance of the International dimension of Nigeria’s security challenges?

Any time informed Nigerians talk about the government sponsoring insecurity in the country, APC members give those people a tag and a label. They see those people as enemies of the government. Then religious bigots give it a religious coloration and term them to be undermining their religion.

On the other hand, ethnically-mesmerized and hypnotized folks defend everything about their incompetent kinsmen in power. Yet we all suffer it while the people we defend get wiser, wealthier, and maintain winning streaks.

Tell me, how could APC or Buhari contract out the security of the nation to an individual?

For long the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) kept denying that they knew nothing about the destruction of government assets in the southeast. But the government swept all the blame to the door post of IPOB.

Until recently, when Asari came out to unmask his activities in the Southeast, and then discerning minds knew who the Unknown Gunmen are. His confession clearly took the veil off the mysterious Unknown Gunmen. The government of APC knew this but were hiding under that cover to decimate the Southeast. The point is Asari Dokubo’s militia is a recipe for civil war in Nigeria.

One, there is going to be a proliferation of armed gangs disguising as Dokubo’s men and would be terrorizing Nigerians.

Two, there is going to be a clash of Dokubo’s men with the military and other security agencies. This clash is not too far from now.

The worrisome aspect of this avoidable scenario is that Dokubo’s militia is a creation of an incompetent, confused APC administration of Buhari. And now, Tinubu can’t disband the militia because of the seeming support of legitimacy he is getting from Dokubo and his dark relationship with him.

Secondly, Dokubo’s militia is an illegality which ought to be met with stiff legal sanctions. But the legislature is dumb and blind. Their eyes are fixed on dollars and nothing more. And that’s a house supposedly filled with lawyers and educated individuals.

Thirdly, the desperately unbridled ambition of Tinubu, for which he is willing to compromise every moral and legal injunction makes the matter even more worrisome. As for Tinubu, he can stand the law on its head, and Nigerians can perish provided he occupies Aso Rock.

Most painful of all, the Nigerian Army has lost professionalism to the dollar-chasing phenomenon of politicians and so they are yet to see Dokubo as a lethal threat not only to the integrity of the Nigerian Army but that of the country.

One would expect that the Army will call both the President and Dokubo to halt their illegal activities, but no. Even when Dokubo rubbished, denigrated, and audaciously disparaged the efficiency of the Army, it has failed to rise to the occasion. They too, like the National Assembly, are playing deaf and blind.

We are witnessing a gross and blatant violation of the Constitution but then we are looking at it from various spectacles and perspectives.

The Nigeria Army should stand up to its constitutional role. Its allegiance is to the Constitution and the people of Nigeria and not to some man who is clearly on an ego trip and ambitious adventure.

The National Assembly should understand that if the country is aflame, the dollars that blinded their eyes and turned them to rubber stamp of ‘yea and nay sayers’, will be burnt and they will have no place to showcase their primitively acquired wealth.

A stitch in time saves a nation.
