Henry Cavill will return as Superman in in ‘Man of Steel 2′.
Due to the recent merger of Warner Brothers with Discovery and David Zaslav’s acquisition of the renowned company, DC Films’ future has been uncertain. Fans have, however, clung tenaciously to a few treasures from DC’s back catalog during the past ten years. Man of Steel, directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill as Superman, is one of such movies.
Man of Steel was the picture that launched the DCEU as we know it, but since its debut in 2013, there hasn’t been a follow-up. But things now appear to be shifting.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, DC is creating a Man of Steel sequel with Cavill returning. A writer is being sought by the studio at this time.
This information is included in a bigger DC report on the franchise’s future, but veteran DC producer Charles Roven is working on it, and it appears that WB has a director on its wishlist. Christopher McQuarrie from Mission: Impossible is mentioned by THR as being included on the list.
Black Superman
Man of Steel caused controversy when it came out, dividing both critics and fans. What if Superman landed in our real world? was a subject that was very much presented in a Zack Snyder movie. It was a considerably darker Superman story as a result than what the general public was accustomed to at the time.
Thankfully, the movie has received new attention over the past ten years. That movie was one of the most intricate character studies found in any contemporary superhero blockbuster because to Cavill’s fantastic performance alone.
Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Black Superman movie is still slated to go into production for Warner Bros. Discovery, even after reports noted that the company is moving forward with a sequel to 2013’s Man of Steel.
The report shared that J.J. Abrams is still attached to produce the movie, even though no timeframe for production was shared:
“It is unclear where the Superman moves leave Abrams, who is still on track to produce Coates’ movie centered on the last son of Krypton.”
Should this news prove true, it would go against the “10-year plan” that WBD CEO David Zaslav described in August 2022, which was said to mirror Disney’s process with Marvel Studios through the Infinity Saga and the Multiverse Saga.
Moreso, Henry Cavill’s Superman will also return in Black Adam.
The Black Adam’s post-credits scene welcomes Superman back to the DCEU in an epic fashion, as he comes face-to-face with Black Adam in Khandaq after the anti-hero stands up to Amanda Waller’s threat. For Superman’s first full appearance in a DCEU project in five years, it is one that audiences will not quickly stop talking about.
Seeing Henry Cavill’s Superman stand up against The Rock’s villain after Black Adam’s ending clearly shows his importance going forward. However, since Superman has been on the sidelines and mishandled for so long, it also creates questions about what will come next. Even Black Adam’s Superman scene might create confusion about his allegiances in the DCEU at this point.
