Organisers of the Grammy Awards has lit all attention on Damini Ogulu popularly known as Burna Boy, becoming most recognised has he emerges the first Nigerian artist to be nominated for the Grammy Awards for two consecutive times in two years.
Earlier in the year, Burna Boy’s album, African Faint lost its nomination category win to Anqelique kidjo has she won the Grammy Awards for the fourth time in a roll.
According to the new nomination list recently released for the 2021 Grammy Awards Burna Boy is again nominated for ‘Best Global Music Album’ category, others international artist for the category is Bebel Gilberter for her album ‘AGORA’, LOVE LETTER by Anoushka Shankar, FU CHRONICLES by Antibals AMADJAR by Tinariwen. The Afro friction singer took to his Twitter page to react to his new nomination. He wrote; “Another one…… #TWICEASTALL”
Burna Boy’s new hit “Twice As Tall” got him the new nomination. The 15 track album is a mixture of Afrobeat, dance hall, pop and hiphop making the piece a unique one. It was released on the 14th of August, 2020 by spaceship Entertainment, Atlantic Records and Warner Music.
The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony to take place at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, USA maybe bringing Burna Boy to another level of stardom as he may set the record of the year as first Nigerian artist to win the Grammy Awards over ten years after Sikiru Adepoju who won the ‘Best Contemporary World Music Album’ (planet drums category), leaving Sade Adu has the only Nigerian born artist to have received the coveted awards for four different times over other Nigerian artist like Femi Kuti, Seun Kuti, Babatunde Olatunji that were nominated for their original works.
Other Nigerian artistes, also featured for the 63rd Grammys nominee list with vocals on Cold Play’s album and ‘Brown Skin Girl’ video is Ayodeji Balogun popularly known as Wizkid and Tiwa Savage for their collaboration work.
