Ohanaeze appreciates passing of South-East Development Commission bill

Chief Sunday Osai has emerged as the President of Lagos State Chapter of the Ohaneze Ndigbo after he polled 380 votes to defeat his closest contender, Chief Ernest Ozonweke in an election contested by four aspirants on Wednesday.

 

The election had participants from the five states of the South-East geo-political zone which include Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states, as well as Igbo-speaking states of Delta and Rivers fully represented was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.

 

The election took place in Enugu Ukwu hall in the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos State starting with the accreditation of delegates from across the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) at 3.30 pm and voting commenced immediately after the accreditation but ran into the night.

 

Eze Oliver Akubueze, also called Miri chaired the election committee and the election was conducted in line with the stipulated election guidelines of the socio-cultural organisation where 757 delegates were accredited and at the end of the process, no void vote was recorded.

 

The electoral officer announced that Chief Sunday Osai scored 380 votes to emerge, the winner, his close contender, Chief Ernest Ozonweke and the traditional prime minister in the outgoing state executive committee (exco), polled 339 votes, Chief Michael Deji polled 34 votes, while Apostle Patrick Nwanze had 4 votes.

 

The new executives will be expected to be sworn in soon since the tenure of the incumbent President and other members of the state exco will end on the 16th of June.

 

It will be recalled that the socio-cultural organisation had some issues with the incumbent President of the organisation, Chief Solomon Ogbonna which led to the impeachment of the President a few days ago.

 

Although Agbonna faulted his impeachment and said it is illegal because a subsisting court judgement has elongated his tenure by four years.
