“It is a matter of honour.

The attempt to argue away or spin the suitability of Dr. Festus Adedayo for the controversial appointment is funny and the argument for him is very weak as far as am concerned.

The debate here is not about his competence and qualifications for the job. He is well suited even with a PhD to boot.

What is at stake here is his honour. His character that has been called to question. Is he a writer of conviction or a hack writer of fortune.

Some have argued since yesterday that he is a journalist and critic who is not meant to write praise a government. Valid argument. Nobody says he should not criticise govt for whatever he considers inadequate or poor performance.

Is Festus Adedayo a critic of government? I dont think so.  He is not a critic. There is language of criticism and there is language of hate.

He wrote bile upon bile against APC and Buhari even against same Lawan who is now the Senate President.

For 4years, week after week he mounted campaign of calumny against APC and its leadership. He abused President Buhari, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for supporting Lawan to become SP. He lampooned the process that produced Lawan and Gbajabiamila as the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Reps.

Suddenly he now wants to benefit from the outcome of a process he repudiated? Who does. The values and principles he expoused in the last 4years of virulent attacks against APC government should serve him now. That he is a journalist and political communication expert, who like doctors and lawyers, can work for anyone he likes is standing logic on the heard. He is not the only person with such skill in Nigeria.

Nothing raises more integrity question than his reported deletion of his offensive articles against President Buhari and APC from his Twitter handle yesterday when the rage against him started. If he had to delete what he wrote from Twitter because of the lure of appointment where lies his principles and conviction?

True, he didn’t lobby to get the job. He was headhunted. He however lied to Premium Times yesterday when he said he was still consulting whether to take the job or not.  He also used his Law School programme as an alibi. Fact is he accepted the appointment before it was formally announced on Tuesday evening. He was shortlisted with another competent man and invited to Abuja for interview with the Senate President on Monday with the other shortlisted candidate.

Both of them were interviewed at Transcorp Hilton by the Senate President from the information at my disposal. Before his appointment was announced he was told that the SP decided to hire him. He accepted the offer and a formal announcement was made. That he is still consulting is a cock and bull story. He said that to Premium Times as face saving knowing that the appointment may not stand because of opposition to it.

What Dr. Adedayo should be resolve is simple. And it is a moral question not that of competence.

So if APC had not won and Senator Lawan he abused had not won as SP would there have been any appointment under the government of the party?

Honour should have dictated he didn’t even accept to attend the job interview let alone being hired. Nobody can explain away why he wants to accept to work for a man he wrote the process that produced him was manipulated by APC and President Buhari.”
