Edo electricity market blossoms, as CCETC-Ossiomo Power completes installation of cables, sub-station – – The electricity market in Edo State has gotten a major boost with the completion of the installation of high-tension cables and a sub-station on the Sapele Road axis, linking the city centre to the 55MW CCETC-Ossiomo Power Plant in Ologbo, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area (LGA) of Edo State.

The project is critical to Governor Godwin Obaseki’s drive for industrialisation and institutional reforms in the state, with a focus to power industrial clusters at the Sapele Road corridor, streetlights and key public buildings, including government offices, hospitals and other essential public amenities in the city centre.

Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, in a statement, said the Governor Obaseki-led administration entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with CCETC-Ossiomo Power to ensure the realization of the project.

According to him, “We are excited that the state’s efforts at liberalising its power sector is coming to fruition and the power supply market is getting competitive. As the Edo State Government is focused on attracting investments into the state, it is also mindful of the role of steady power supply in promoting the growth of businesses and industries. This is why the governor has facilitated the setting up of the 55MW CCETC-Ossiomo Power Plant in the state.”

He said the installation of the high-tension lines has been completed as the plant has been linked to a sub-station within Benin City, noting that all was set for test run of the power-lines.

“There were initial encumbrances on the installation of the cables, but all those have been cleared as the sub-station has been linked to the power plant in Ologbo. So, all is set for the state to have a new entrant in the electricity market. With the state government’s PPA with the firm, public buildings would be assured of steady power supply, just as government hospitals would also be fed from the station,” he added.
