Ekwunife: Why My Record In The Senate Will Be Difficult For Anyone To Beat

The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, PhD has explained why it is virtually impossible for any of her opponents currently jostling to represent the people of the senatorial district to beat her record of achievements in the Senate.

Senator Ekwunife made this known while addressing questions at a 2-hour radio interactive programme on Ogene 98.3 fm Enugwu-Ukwu

Ekwunife stated that performance in the National Assembly is a function of experience and ranking as well as the ability of the lawmaker to lobby effectively. She said that she wouldn’t have achieved much if she doesn’t know her way around the National Assembly.

“If you look at the zonal intervention funds, the money allocated to our senatorial district is far less than five million naira when shared amongst the communities under the Senatorial District. Can five million naira do road? Can it complete and equip a health centre? The answer is No.”

The Senator further explained that her numerous projects were not attracted on a platter of gold. “I fought very hard to ensure that those projects came to our Senatorial District. We have 109 Senators in Nigeria with each battling to ensure that they bring something home for their people. The strength and capacity of a senator is critical in deciding what he or she can attract to the people”, the federal lawmaker added.

“It is on record that I attracted the South East Headquarters of an agency of the federal government, SHEDA to Anambra state. A Solar Cosmic Ray Laboratory that will serve the entire South East region is currently under construction at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, this was also facilitated by me.”

“Beyond my numerous impactful bills and motions, I have facilitated a record 462 federal employment for young Anambrarians. When the list of board members for the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) was brought to the Senate, I was the one who rose to speak on the non-inclusion of an Igbo man on the board and this was rectified.”

“Performance in the Senate is not a question of how long your red cap is. If I were to be a man and performances were based on red caps, I’m sure my cap will be longer than that of anyone”, the Senator said.

Ekwunife assured that if re-elected she will tripple her record, ensure that she completes all ongoing projects while commencing new ones, intensify efforts in Job creation and ensure the advancement of several critical bills she has sponsored in the Senate.
