Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, on Tuesday, announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr Obaseki announced this after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja.

I addressed the press after meeting with the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, over the resignation of my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is coming after so many dramatic moments by the party and they screening him out last week, to contest as returning governor of Edo state in the coming election.

Mr Obaseki earlier said he would take a decision on his membership of the APC after meeting with the Nigerian leader – obviously it didn’t go his way.

The incumbent governor said he will, in days to come, announce the new political platform where he will be seeking his re-election soon.

He has also blamed his ordeal on the APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, with whom he has been involved in a bitter fight.

The Edo governor is expected to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party whose leaders he has been meeting with since the APC’s decision. Speculations also have it that this may be his next party, although many have advice him to try ADC.

Meanwhile, thousands of APC supporters in Edo state have followed Governor Obaseki’s step.

I Comrade Emmanuel Orukpe resigns my membership from apc forthwith, in solidarity with the working Governor…… Mr Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki.

Also, the Executive Chairman of Owan West, Hon. Frank Ilaboya, Council Vice Chairman, Hon. Moses Mayah; Council Secretary, Hon. Odion Daniel Iruobe; Councillors, Supervisors and many others have pledge support to stand with Obaseki all through.

“The turnout here is a testament that Owan West APC is ready to follow Obaseki to wherever he goes.”

” Owan West stakeholders are happy with Obaseki’s policies which has resulted in infrastructural development, job creation, security of lives and properties, enhanced education and many others.”
