HEARTWRENCHING INSENSITIVITY: THE FAILURE OF NIGERIA’S LEADERSHIP AND OPPOSITION

The ruling APC Tinubu-led government in Nigeria has entrenched themselves in power, but rather than prioritising the welfare of the Nigerian people, they have been preoccupied with personal gains and political maneuvering. The consequences of their actions are dire, reflecting a leadership that is criminally negligent and wholly unacceptable.
Recent events have epitomised the callousness and incompetence of the current administration. The devastating massacre perpetrated by herdsmen in Plateau state, the unintended killings of hundreds by the military in Kaduna States, and the governors’ gathering for merriment and festivity at Burdilon, Lagos State, all while the country mourns, serve as a metaphor for the failure and insensitivity of Nigerian leadership.
A government that not only fails to sympathise but also neglects to address the genocide unfolding in the north cannot be taken seriously. Such a government is devoid of any moral or legitimate authority to rule. The core issue plaguing Nigeria lies squarely in its leadership, as aptly stated by the eminent novelist, Chinua Achebe, who tirelessly emphasised that Nigerian leaders are clueless about true leadership.
The current administration represents the worst leadership Nigeria has ever witnessed, while the opposition under the PDP has equally proven to be ineffective since 2015. These failures have consistently let down the Nigerian people. The developments in Kaduna and Plateau states continue to erode the constitutional rights of Nigerian citizens. Regrettably, those tasked with upholding the law and protecting lives exhibit nothing but insensitivity. Gathering at Bourdillon for merry-making while the nation suffers is a testament to their disregard for the welfare of the people.
Furthermore, the most disheartening aspect is the complacency of the opposition party. The presence of opposition governors joining their colleagues in APC at Tinubu’s residence for Christmas festivities showcases the lackluster and ineffective nature of Nigeria’s current opposition. This complacency exacerbates the already dire situation, leaving the country without a credible alternative to the ruling party.
Nigeria finds itself at a crossroads, yearning for leadership that is empathetic, decisive, and committed to the welfare of its citizens. The current ruling party has failed the Nigerian people and the opposition Parties’ ineffectiveness is disappointing the Nigerian people, perpetuating a cycle of misgovernance and neglect. It is high time for a transformation in Nigeria’s political landscape, where leaders emerge who understand the true essence of leadership and are dedicated to the betterment of the nation.
In conclusion, the ruling APC Tinubu-led government, along with the ineffectiveness of the opposition, has exhibited a distressing level of insensitivity towards the plight of the Nigerian people. The failures evident in their actions and inactions highlight the urgent need for a leadership overhaul in Nigeria. The country must demand leaders who prioritise the well-being of the citizens, adhere to the constitution, and work tirelessly to bring about positive change. Only then can Nigeria rise above its current predicament and fulfill its true potential as a prosperous and united nation.
