Constitutionally, all candidates going into this election should have 90 complete days to campaign across the state in order to sell his manifestos to the people but as a result of insecurity in the state, I was deprived of such right. I wasn’t given enough time to do my campaign. Even, the general public to which I should sell my manifestos to were apprehensive as a result of threat from IPOB.

According to the constitution of Nigeria, it is the primary responsibility of government to provide security to the people. This is the fault of the government, not mine. It’s unwise for someone to risk his life because he wants to seek the mandate to serve his people.

Even the whole world is aware that Anambra State is not secured now, why is INEC in a haste to conduct this election which has resulted to the loss of precious lives including that of our security agents.

Due to insecurity, over 70% of the electorates were not given the chance to meet the candidates one on one, in town hall meetings, to be able to make the right choice.

Again, some candidates were given heavy security personnels to guard them but none was given to me. What’s is good for the geese is good for the gander. Other candidates ran out of the state for safety leaving me here alone because I have no place to run to. Since then, I have gone into hiding only to sneak into some places recently to know whether I can meet some people privately. Our party was not able to upload the names of our polling unit agents due to the fear accompanied with “No Election” order.

I hearby call on INEC to shift this election to either December or January because INEC still has a space of up to 17th January to hold this election.

Insecurity is an enough reason to postpone election because over 70% of the electorates who are the key people in this election have said they are not coming out either because of ourbrother who’s in detention or because of fear associated with the threat. Even your own children would not have come out if they were here.

I am not comfortable seeing my people being killed or terrorised or kept in perpetual fear as a result of conducting election for them in an uncondusive political atmosphere. Are we really practicing democracy in this country? Security and we’ll being of my people is more important to me than becoming the governor of Anambra State.

I, therefore, advise that INEC should shift this election by one or two months if the security of lives and property of people mean anything to them. Then, the federal government will use the space created to look into the agitations of our people and be able to calm them down ahead of the election if Igbos are truly loved in this country called Nigeria.

Meanwhile, I encourage all Anambrarians to troup out in mass to vote BOOT Party on November 6 if INEC insists that this election must hold on that day. Then, when I win, I will use dialogue and engagements to unite my people into a peaceful and prosperous state. But if my people don’t come out as a result of fear, I will also sue both INEC and federal government in order to save our democracy.
