Man Defrauds Girlfriend Of N2m, Uses Money To Marry Another Lady

50-year-old man arrested for allegedly stealing money from his mother’s handbag

A 30-year-old man, Akeem Bello, has has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court for reportedly defrauding his girlfriend, Olaotan Oladapo.

 

Bello was arraigned on a two-count charge of fraud and obtaining by false pretence.

 

The suspect was said to have defrauded Oladapo of N2 million between March and December last year.

 

It was gathered that the defendant started dating the victim in 2018.

 

Police prosecutor, Inspector A. Ajeniwa informed the court that the defendant started defrauding the victim by siphoning the money she sent to him from overseas for his personal use.

 

Ajenwa alleged that Akeem used the money for his marriage with another lady.

 

The prosecutor also stated that the victim’s womb has been damaged due to series of abortions done for the defendant.

 

He said the offences contravened Sections 383 and 421,390 (b and c) of the Criminal Code Cap. 37. Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

 

Presiding Magistrate, C.M Akinwumi ordered the remand of the defendant at Olokuta Custodial Centre.

 

The case was adjourned to November 2nd, 2022 for further hearing.
