The Ogun State Government, through its Ministry of Agriculture in conjunction with the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has given palliative to 150 women farmers across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State, towards sustaining food sufficiency in the State.
The palliative received by each farmer include 4 bags of fertilizer, 20 bundles of cassava, bottles of chemicals and cash gifts, in a statement issued by the Press Officer, Ministry of Agriculture, Ms. Morolayo Fadairo.
Distributing the palliative to the beneficiaries at Ogun State Agro Processing Corporation, Asero, Abeokuta, the State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, said the palliatives were the continuation of several inputs that had been given to farmers since the inception of the present administration.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the Governor enjoined the farmers to make judicious use of the items given to boost their livelihood, and in turn, provide food for the people and for industrialisation.
Governor Abiodun, who appreciated NALDA for the gesture, reassured the farmers of his administration’s passion for alleviating their plights, to make Agric practice more comfortable and profitable.
Earlier in his address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Samuel Adeogun maintained that the palliatives were relief to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal and to further support women farmers in the State, noting that the distribution in conjunction with NALDA was the first in the country.
In his goodwill message, NALDA State Coordinator, Mr. Ibrahim Babalola emphasised the importance of food production, hence, the exercise would be a continuous exercise provided the beneficiaries maximise the inputs received.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chairperson, All Farmers’ Association of Nigeria, Alhaja Ganiyat Adeoye-Kusimo appreciated the Governor, promising that the palliative received by women farmers would be maximally utilise while advising the farmers to keep up the good work through hard work.
